From Alpha Centauri at the top to the dark nebula the Coal Sack in the middle, and down to the beautiful Lambda Centauri Nebula at the bottom this field is one of the most spectacular Milkyway regions in the sky to study. A few other notable objects include Ced 122 a round ball of reflection nebulosity just to the upper left of the Coal Sack with a pair of orange stars in the middle, and just above it, a small red patch the planetary Wray 17-63.
