The Planet Mars

At 12 arcseconds

Uploaded 5/22/03

This is my first attempt of the current apparition to record the martian landscape. The disk is very tiny at this point, and will be comming in much closer in the comming months. This image was obtained by selecting 200 of the best of 2000 frames taken over a 30 second period. A distinct polar cap can be seen at the bottom along with some dusky markings.

At left is the original 200 selected frames image.

Processing: Convert to greyscale, apply expotential Maximum Entropy deconvolution, combine with original in LAB color space to form new RGB image.
