- First entry. The prototype solar astrograph is coming along.
I have at this point, etched all the aluminum off the main and
secondary mirrors, and re mounted them back in their cells. Have
a problem with the primary, I painted the edge black and had
to force fit it back in the cell. The mirror appears pinched
and the images are not as clear as they should be. I will have
to take out the mirror and sand off the paint where it touches
the cell. Oh well. Im not expecting miracles from this mirror,
but hopefully it will get a bit better. while the 1x prime focus
shots look great, the 5x Barlow shots are a big blur from either
the poor optical quality of the main mirror or Im pinching it.
Well see. Even so, I now know how to strip a mirror of aluminizing.
More solar scopes are on the way for sure. : )
