This rarely seen black crested bird was photographed down by the river in Black Canyon City. They are very difficult to approach, and it was only through a stealthy stalk this image was obtained with the 400mm lens. These birds eat insects by rivers and mistletoe. The red eyes are quite piercing, and there is no other bird that has them that is all black.
