M102

Edge on Galaxy in Draco

Uploaded 5/8/02

Exactly edge on, M102 or NGC5866 in some books, is a bright 10.7 magnitude SO spiral that is 6.4x2.8 arcmins in extent. The Wray Atlas only mentions its old yellow population of stars. Skiff mentions the 13th magnitude stars, and its lenticular shape visually. Notable is the visual absence of a nucleus.
