Morning
Rocket Launch from White Sands, NM
Uploaded 7/11/06
Once or twice
a year, rockets are launched into space from launching range
in White Sands. Here in Arizona, we can see them if they are
launched before dawn in the morning twilight as bright vapor
trails. The rocket went straight up, but the vapor trail is curving
in wild convolutions from high altitude winds. The upper three
loops are significant, while the wind can be seen going in shearing
opposite directions, the leading edge is forked. This means the
winds at those altitude is faster on the shear edges than in
the center of the layer.
The first image is with
the zoom set for 40mm, and lower 17mm and shows Venus to the
left.
