Microscope Dark Field Condenser Adapter

Project Updated 2/3/19

The new dark field adapter I bought for our high powered trinocular microsope had to be adapted to fit, since it was made for another model. This would normally have to be done on a lathe and milling machine in a machine shop. But the 3D printer had one done in an hour and a half!

Solidworks drawing of the adapter. Machining this out of a bar of aluminum would have taken me many hours, and a lot of labor.

The Condenser is here installed in the adapter. It concentrates a beam of light from underneath the specimens on the microscope slide by illuminating them from the sides rather than below as a standard condenser does. This is called "Dark Field Illumination". The photos are very dramatic.
