This project was
done to fill the need to protect our assortment of telescope
accesories from moisture and especially dust here in Arizona.
The original caps (if provided at all) on the best quality products
are usually made of polyethelene. However, caps made here with
PLA worked great, and could be printed in assorted colors.

Solid
Works representation of the Cap. The cap is actually about 10
mils larger than the eyepice tube. The four small ridges inside
are 15 mils smaller. When you install the cap, the ridges go
outward, and the cap walls in between warp inwards. Thus making
for a springy slide on cap that wont fall off. Virtually every
plastic cap ever made is of this design. |

The
final prints shown here. The two on the left are 3D printed out
of PLA. One is on a 2" barlow lens on the bottom. The black
cap on the right is the original from a Televue eyepiece made
of Polyethelene. It was the last one I had! |
